Coming soon: upload, store, share ANY file type with Google Docs

Google Docs upload
Google has been insisting for years that the mythical GDrive doesn't exist. But the company has been offering huge amounts of free online storage to Gmail, Picasa, and Google Docs for years. And while Google still insists that the GDrive doesn't exist, the company is preparing to roll out a new feature: the ability to upload any file type to Google Docs. If it walks like a GDrive...

Once uploaded, you'll be able to share files with friends, mark them as public, or keep them private. You'll be able to view text, office, and image files online using Google Viewer. Although you can also upload video files, there's no video player yet.

There are a few caveats. Your files will need to be 250MB or smaller. And free accounts get just 1GB of storage. If you want more you'll have to shell out some cash for additional space.

TechCrunch reports that Google will begin rolling out the universal upload feature over the next few weeks. I went to test it and was able to upload a video file. But when the upload was complete, I got an error message letting me know that AVI videos aren't supported yet. So I guess no GDrive for me just yet.
