Viviti is a compelling CMS + host for beginners

Similar to recently covered Lifeyo, Viviti is a CMS for people starting out with their first website. The concept is very similar, and the execution is quite nice. You build your page out of drag-and-drop "blocks", which are high-level components. You can drop in a blog, a feedback form, a PayPal payment widget, and also arbitrary HTML and Javascript code.

You start off with a template, but you can manually edit the CSS and HTML, so it's easier to customize than Lifeyo. Another nice perk is that paid accounts ($10 USD/mo and up) get to use a built-in gallery of stock images. That's very handy, assuming the gallery is large enough so that not all websites look alike.

On the whole, the site feels less polished and "fun" than Lifeyo. For example, Lifeyo generates an image header for you with one of several funky fonts -- you just give your site a name, and you get a very nice header. With Viviti, you have to upload your own image (which is usually not as nice as Lifeyo's auto-generated one, especially if you're just starting out with the whole web-design thing). Still, it's a worthy contender and is certainly worth checking out if you're looking for an all-in-one host/CMS solution.
