Google brings Friend Connect to Joomla and Drupal

Today, Google announced the addition of their Friend Connect service to both the Joomla and Drupal platforms. Friend Connect is a pretty cool concept. It allows people to become "members" of a website by using credentials from sites like Google, Twitter, Yahoo, etc. Once logged in, you can "like" content, add other friends and participate in polls, discussions and other stuff like that.

The service hasn't really exploded yet, even though it's been around for quite some time. It goes up against Facebook Connect which offers much of the same features and has been implemented a little more often. Either way, Friend Connect is nice because it allows you to add all this social-ness without the need for any crazy coding or added software. Additionally, users tend to like it because it doesn't require yet another registration.

Both Drupal and Joomla are really popular content management systems, powering sites like whitehouse.gov. Google obviously saw this growing popularity and decided to jump on board and introduce their Friend Connect service to them.
