Google Chrome beta downloads for Mac and Linux now available

With the Extensions Gallery now in open beta, what better time for Google to make with the releases? Yes, at long last Google Chrome for Mac and Linux have hit beta. You're no longer limited to running Chromium nightly builds or the less-stable developer channel on a non-Windows system.

Visiting the download page from either OsX or Linux will now lead to you the screen you see above, and then you're free to download and install the beta.

Apart from getting a more stable build to run, the Linux version of Chrome is also now available as a .DEB or .RPM package in both 32 and 64-bit flavors - no doubt welcome new for users of Fedora-based distributions.

While the Linux version does offer extension support, bookmark sync has yet to be added. I haven't gotten word on whether or not the Mac version supports extensions, so let us know in the comments if you've tried it out. Google Gears support is also missing.

As you'd expect, the beta is fast - and feels even quicker to me on Linux than it does on my Windows system. Take it for a spin yourself, and share your impressions!

update: Google now has an official blog post up about the releases.
