Last week, we were following the rise of some mobile versions of Firefox (Maemo, Android) and the fall of others (Windows Mobile). This week, the much-talked-about Android edition of Mozilla's browser has hit Android forums as a pre-release download. It's not feature-complete yet, but it does have a bookmark manager and support some add-ons. If you want to be the first kid on your block to try Firefox on Android, it's worth a download.Our friend Brad Linder, over at Mobiputing, says that the build that's going around right now is optimized for Droid, and doesn't run quite so smoothly on his Nexus One. He also points out that you'll need to copy the .apk file to your phone's SD card and use a file explorer app to complete the install. It's called "GeckoApp," by the way, which is a reference to the Gecko rendering engine used in Firefox.
