Spotify music service gets a US release date and a Blackberry app

Spotify, the streaming music service that made a big splash in Europe last year, has always been slated for a 2010 launch in the US. Unfortunately, there was a long period at the beginning of this year when Spotify's executives wouldn't say much of anything about when they'd finally bring the service to North America.

The hype around the service cooled off a bit, but you can prepare to hear more about Spotify again, starting now: Spotify will come to the US in the third quarter of this year, and it's getting Blackberry and Palm apps.

A senior VP at Spotify told Bloomberg that the company has already started buying US server space and entering licensing discussions with labels and music publishers. Spotify already has 325,000 subscribers -- even without tapping into the US market. Spotify hasn't said which US mobile providers it will partner with, although the talks have apparently already begun.

This news comes hot on the heels of Spotify's CEO telling The Telegraph that the service would make its debut in the U.S. "later this year."
