Android OS now available for your (hacked) iPhone

The coolest new Android phone might not be from Motorola, Google, or HTC. It might be, of all things, the iPhone! An intrepid Linux hacker has managed to get a debug version up and running on Apple's iconic handset, albeit without a few sexy features like pinch-to-zoom. Still, Android appears to be usable on Apple's phone.

The video of this Franken-phone in action shows that the iPhone's physical buttons had to be remapped to Android functions, which is way more work than a casual user would go through. Also, the iPhone wouldn't be the speediest Android device, even if you could legitimately install the OS on it (that would be the HTC Incredible, according to our friends at Engadget). The point isn't that this iDroid (or whatever you want to call it) is ready for daily use, it's the thrill of running a very good alternative OS on a locked-down piece of hardware.

See this Androidy, iPhoney goodness for yourself, after the jump.
