Firefox for Mobile pre-alpha lands on Android

Love Firefox on your desktop? Wishing your Android handset could run a Mozilla browser, too? Well, now it can -- probably, anyway!

Mozilla developer Vladimir Vukićević has shared the news on his personal blog: a Fennec pre-alpha for Android has arrived. Vlad states that the build has only been tested (internally, anyway) on the Nexus One and Moto Droid.

But hey, this is a pre-alpha anyways so if you want to try it out at this stage you probably don't care about things like which handset was it tested on. Besides, Vlad says it's "usable enough" and "probably won't eat your phone." It may, however, cause freeze ups or reboots.

A few things to note: the build must be installed to your phone's internal memory and it has to be running Android 2.x and be OpenGL ES 2.0 compatible.

The point at this stage is to get feedback about Fennec to help with its continued development. If you're feeling adventurous, take the pre-alpha for a trial run -- there's also an experimental version of Weave posted which you can install to keep your Android browsing in sync with your desktop!
