Google acquires slick iPhone email app reMail

We've covered reMail before, raving about the way version 2.0 fixed security issues and did away with subscription fees.

Now, the email search and archiving utility has been acquired by Google. reMail's schtick is downloading your whole email archive, attachments and all, to your iPhone, and then letting your search the full text of your email at speeds 5 times faster than Gmail's mobile interface.

No wonder Google wanted it!

The reMail iPhone app will unfortunately be discontinued in its current form, but users who already have it can continue to use it, with support through March and all paid features enabled for free. reMail's mastermind, Gabor Cselle, rejoins Google as a Gmail project manager (I say rejoins because he used to be a Google intern).

Hopefully, the improvements Gabor built on top of Gmail will become native improvements in some way or another.
