DownThemAll! 2.0 beta ready for testing

DownThemAll! is one of my must-have Firefox add-ons and it has been for ages. It's a fantastic upgrade to the built-in download manager, and it's about to get even better -- with the arrival of version 2.0!

A beta version has been made available to the public and a wide range of new features have been added. DTA 2 supports global, per server, and per download speed limits. Audio and video downloading has been improved with HTML5 <video> and <audio> integration, media sniffing, and the ability to tag-team with the Video DownloadHelper add-on.

Firefox 3.6's private browsing mode is also fully supported and DTA's context menu entries have been re-tooled. The official announcement also mentions simplified code and numerous performance-related changes, and they're easy to notice: DTA 2 feels very snappy compared to its predecessor.

As the official post states, the DTA 2 beta is mostly feature complete but it still has a few bugs that need squashing. If you'd like to test it out, head over to the announcement page with Firefox and install the DownThemAll! 2 beta!

Now if only Google would open up Chrome sufficiently to allow DTA to make the jump -- I'd love to be able to replace the built-in download manager with it.
