The Android Developer Challenge is a Google initiative that throws a bunch of money toward the development community to encourage the creation of great Android apps. The prizes are no small potatoes, either. In the just-completed ADC2, $100,000 prizes went to the winners in each of ten designated categories, with $50,000 for second and $25,000 for third. There was also an additional $150,000, $50,000 and $25,000 for the top three overall apps. The big winner was SweetDreams, which forwards your calls to voicemail at night and disables inessential functions like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to save battery while you're sleeping. Second and third went to a multiplayer drawing game called What the Doodle!? and a really useful-sounding phone tracking and backup app called WaveSecure. The top arcade game was Speed Forge 3D, where you pilot a heavily-armed mining vehicle.
